Tlaq

our not-to-be-missed Sedona experience must include spending time at internationally renowned Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village. Pronounced T-lockey-pockey, this acclaimed arts, culture and shopping destination is in a class by itself. Nestled beneath giant sycamore trees on the banks of beautiful Oak Creek, Tlaquepaque is the most distinctive shopping complex to be found in the Southwest…or just about anywhere else.
Founder and visionary Abe Miller built Tlaquepaque over 40 years ago. His dream was to create a village in Sedona reflecting the flavor, sights and sounds of Old Mexico. Here he would showcase gifted artists, artisans, and makers of fine handcrafted goods, while inviting collectors, lovers of art and visitors the world over to discover the treasures within its walls. Today Tlaquepaque remains a vibrant arts community and a Sedona cultural icon just like it was envisioned so long ago.
With over 45 distinctive specialty shops there is something here for everyone. Discover fabulous art treasures among its 19 exceptional galleries. Tlaquepaque abounds with spectacular, one-of-a kind art expressions in every medium and stylistic genre, from classic Southwestern fine art to contemporary, abstract, Native American and even spiritually contemplative works. You’ll also find comfortably stylish women’s clothing from skirts, wraps, fun hats, leather goods and accessories to jewelry, the latest home décor, handcrafted rugs, and more as part of the Tlaquepaque shopping experience.
Tlaquepaque is also a gathering place, alive with traditional fiestas and festivals as experienced in times gone by and in Mexico today. Be sure to check out our full events calendar to get a preview of the festivities…all family-friendly and perfect for weekend getaways.
Tlaquepaque, meaning the “best of everything,” has been a significant Sedona landmark since the 1970s. Its vine covered, thick stucco walls, cobblestone walkways and magnificent arched entryways give you the feeling that Tlaquepaque has been here for centuries. On any given day you may witness gifted artists absorbed in their work. It’s not uncommon to venture upon a well-known sculptor working on his or her latest piece right in one of the Tlaquepaque galleries. Spend some time with them and you’ll come away with a deep appreciation for their creative process.
